In Northwest Syria, a 13-year conflict, economic instability, and challenges like AWD/cholera and COVID-19 have created a dire humanitarian situation. Amidst these difficulties, Amal has worked to enhance Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services, addressing issues in water infrastructure, sewage networks, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and disease awareness campaigns. The targeted areas, Al Areen - Kastanah Fawqan, Korin and Nahliya Communities , face multiple challenges due to conflict, strained infrastructure, and poor water resource management. The intervention aimed to assist 15,483 individuals, including residents and IDPs, through the following interventions:
- Rehabilitation of water station (installing a generator 150 KVA, installing pump, constructing underground water tank 100 m3, installing solar system, etc).
- Rehabilitation of sewage network by installing concrete cement pipes 1000 mm with a length of 960 m.
- Construction of wastewater treatment plant (ABR), and establishment of Water Users Association (WUA) to manage and organize the irrigation process with the treated water.
- Supporting the solid waste management by providing the necessary tools and materials.
- Conducting 700 hygiene awareness sessions in the target communities.
