Providing WASH Services in Emergency Response to Earthquake-Affected Population in NW Syria

Amal addresses the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in NW Syria, focusing on priority sub-districts. The project aimed to assist 128,254 individuals (119,902 direct, and 8,352 indirect) in Atareb, Ariha, Maaret Tmsrin, Salqin, Harim, Idleb, Janudiyeh, and Jisr-Ash-Shugur sub-districts, through the following interventions:

In camps:

-         Providing full WASH package in 4 camps in Selwa and Qah.

-         Connecting 4 formal camps (one of them for widows) with sewage networks in Maaret Tamsrin, Dana, and Salqin sub districts.

In communities:

-         Rehabilitation of the sewage networks in 5 communities.

-         Improve the preparations of the health centers, which have designated special sections as a CTUs to receive potential cases of AWD/cholera through installing solar energy systems in Qanniyeh and Al Andalus health centers. Additionally, construction of separate latrines (2 seats), distributing water tanks 2 m3, distributing sets of colored waste containers.

-         Rehabilitation of 4 water stations and water.

-         Installation of solar systems in 3 water stations.

-         Support 9 water stations with operational costs.

-         Improve the access of PWDs to WASH services through distributing: (205 water tanks 1 m3 liters, 467 waste containers 110 liters, 109 movable toilet seats, 262 special hygiene kits (diapers/nappies) of different sizes for babies and adults who cannot move or use the toilet, 668 hygiene kits for all PWDs).
